QOTD

"There are some people in this room that don't need to be here.
We've got guys in here that are cancers.
The thing about cancer cells is, they multiply.
We've got to cut them out."
- Mike Singletary after his first game as coach of the 49'ers... they lost 34-13 to the crappy Seahawks
Singletary might be a great NFL coach. This whole story is pretty good:

Politics
QOTD
"But nothing, nothing I’ve seen has matched the media bias on display in the current Presidential campaign."
- Michael S. Malone, some journalist I've never heard of
Malone's (excellent) full story is here:
Editing Their Way to Oblivion: Journalism Sacrificed For Power and Pensions

Ah journalism... lowest all professions. We've had a complete integrity meltdown this election year. It's more than lefty bias. It's angry. It's mean. It's entitled. It's completely ninny-fied as Saturday Night Live becomes the main source for politcial news networks. Another favorite: I saw a CNN piece exploring whether Sarah Palin's wink is racist. No, I am not kidding.

Is all this a sign of the bottom? Will things get better?

Well, let's see if this gets reported:
That's from NewsBusters, which is a righty web site. Where else other than NewsBusters and Drudge will you find this stuff. I see that my Yahoo page is still touting that the repubs bought Sarah Palin clothes. Sigh.

If I were John McCain... and I am not... this audio would be played every minute of every day for the next week. It would be a part of every speech. I would buy Sarah Palin some more hot clothes and run as fast as I could with this football.

Can the articulation of a philosophy like this sway 2-4% of Americans?
I think, um, maybe.
I still believe that Americans do not want European socialism in our country.
I'll keep watching Obama's Intrade stock. It's still at an all-time high right now. Forget the polls, watch the money. Speaking of money...

Money
A couple of esoteric points on the stock market:
  • The S&P 500 intra-day low of 840 is important. We bounce off it, things look a little better. We slide right past it. Yikes!
  • From Minyanville... the S&P is 35% below its 50-day moving average. That's happened only 5 times since 1928, and the market has been higher 50 days later each time.
go long... yow, bill
