Me and Dr. Drew
Dr. Drew... he of sex and reality show fame. I can't say I'm a fan. There he is over there with his hot wife.
I'm a big fan of hers. He he.
I was surfing and saw Dr. Drew on some talking head show, and he struck a chord. He (pretty) eloquently described what bugs me so much these days.
I'll (less eloquently) summarize with some nerdy bullets:
- America is moving toward a more socialist and paternal view of government. He described this ala de Tocqueville as a decline in our belief in American individualism and exceptionalism.
- Society is becoming more emotional, rather than reasoned in evaluating problems, politics, life. Evidence of this: the personal emotional investment people seem to have in (unconditionally hating) the former president and (unconditionally loving) the current president.
- The media is a directly enabler in this shift.
If you want to jump all the way into this pool, here's Charles Murray (a WSJ guy, I believe) talking expansively, academically, and boringly on this topic.
And let's wrap with an exceptional QOTD, eh.
QOTD
"Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality.Money!
But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."
Alexis de Tocqueville, source link
spring soon... yow, bill
PS - I've posted links to this on Facebook, but it's so great... the new Cub commercial.
Or should I say, it's "exceptional"!
