CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES

It was a week of hurricanes (Ike), double-headers, blown saves, and finally no-hitters (Carlos Zambrano)... and also a week for the Planet, the 2008 LP3 Champion.

LP3 2008 Champion

Naperville Planets!

The Planet won 6-4 over long-time nemesis the Vatican City Popes in a matchup that was hotly contested for the entire week. The Planet closers and running game versus the Pope's starting aces and boppers.

In the end, the Planet stole and pitched their way to the title. The Pope pitching staff under-performed and ome have pointed the finger at high pitch counts demanded by Vatican owner and manager Eric Schoonover over the long season as a reason for the collapse. That remains to be seen.

In any case, the title will rest in Naperville for this year. The good people of Naperville celebrated by sleeping in late and then running 20 miles.

Golly, another great year... thanks for everyone who played.

Johan Santana, Planet ace and #1 pitcher selected in the draft, matched against Killer Maltese #1, Cole Hamels.

The end of the story: Johan won, and the Planet advance.

Killer Maltese superstar Hamels lost, and the Popes play another day in the championship round. "Stupid Hamels," muttered KM3 owner Brad Siroky.
