Fun stats

The stat fun starts with pulling the raw data out of Yahoo. Here it is:

season_data.pdf

Raw data in hand (or spreadsheet), these fun stats are then created each week:

A little bit about the NIPR stat above:

  • NIPR stands for "New and Improved Power Ranking".
  • The goal of NIPR is to provide a statistical measure of teams, one that is independent of head-to-head competition.
  • NIPR is a Z-score or "standard score". You can google it, but here's a freebie for you: stattrek.com/statistics/dictionary.aspx?definition=z_score
  • A NIPR score of 0 means that your team is average in that stat. A NIPR score of 100 means that your team is 1 standard deviation better than average. And a score of -100 means that your team is 1 standard deviations worse than average.
  • Now, you can apply NIPR to one category or as many as you like. The base NIPR ranking covers all 10 cats. NIPR-1 is interesting; it's all cats but excludes your worst category. And so on.

Your MVP of the 2019 season is Ronald Acuña Jr. of The KGG.

This is a perfect reflection of the times and the youth movement in baseball. Acuña is just 21 years old. (gasp!) With a month to play, dood already has a 30-30 season (36 dinger, 33 sb). Yow!

That's a wrap on the regular season. I highly recommend you proceed to zee playoffs. Cha!
