Week 1: Inter-conference games

This week was picked out of a hat at the draft. Also, the Western Conference won the coin flip and gets to be the home team this week.

Weeks 2-8: Intra-Conference Games, round 1/3

The first round of intra-conference games. With an odd number of teams in each conference (7 actually), each week there are 3 games in the East, 3 games in the West, and one inter-conference game.

Weeks 9-11: Inter-Conference Games

Celebrate Christmas and New Years with some inter-conference shenanigans. The East is home weeks 9 and 11; the West is home on week 10.

Weeks 12-18: Intra-Conference Games, round 2/3

It's revenge time in the second round of intra-conference matchups. Home field advantage switches this time around. In other words, if you were home against a team last round, then you're away this time and visa versa. Get it? Cool. The NBA All-Star break is Feb 9-12 in NIBL weeks 15 and 16.

Weeks 19-25: Intra-conference Games, round 3/3

Round 3 of the intra-conference games wrapup the last weeks of the regular season. Beware: the last week of the NBA season ends on a Wednesday, so the last NIBL-week has only 4 days.

Making of the Schedule

Some goo on how I made the schedule:

• First off, the schedule is assigned randomly and created using placeholders (like east1-east7) and teams aren't assigned (out of a hat of course) until the very end.
• We decided to go with a full and balanced schedule that uses all 25 weeks of the NBA schedule. Speaking of balance, each team should play 25 games: playing each team in its conference 3 times (18 total games) and each team outside the conference once (7 total games).
• After week 1, each team has 12 home and 12 away games. Western Conference teams got that extra home game in week 1 because of the coin flip at the draft.
• There are three rounds of intra-conference games. Each round lasts 7 weeks, and each team plays every other team within its conference. Each week there is one inter-conference game as well because there are an odd number of teams in each conference.
